WELCOME HOPPERS!
Hiya! My name is Joy and I am the owner of A Joyful Soul Fabrics! We are an online shop and we travel around to various quilt shows in the Texas and Oklahoma area and set up shop. (Must keep things portable as we are still Active Duty in the United States Navy, currently stationed in San Antonio, Texas.)
If you've never visited us before, we specialize in bright, fabulous fabrics, funky patterns and STELLAR customer service. We LOVE designers like Heather Bailey, Amy Butler, Sis Boom, Art Gallery Fabrics and so much more! We don't just specialize in quilts either! While we have fabulous quilt kits, we offer pre-cut fabric sets, handbag kits, clothing patterns and home decor fabrics and patterns. We love ALL things fabric!
We use this blog to showcase different projects we work on in the studio. It might be a tutorial we found online or maybe a review of a new pattern. We also like to do an occasional giveaway! Let's do one NOW! Here's a question for you!
What's on in the background while you sew??
Do you sew to music, watch TV, try to ignore the screaming children and barking dogs?? You get it! Leave your answer below in a comment and you'll be entered to win a baby quilt kit featuring Art Gallery Fabrics "Sugar" fat quarters! (International Friends are welcome too!) My favorite background noise is Florence + the Machine! Super loud!

ReplyDeleteI like to listen to my local radio station.
ReplyDeleteI play internet radio in the background when I sew. And sometimes audiobooks. I love a good story, don't you? Thank you for your service to our country. My son-in-law is an active duty Marine, an Osprey pilot. San Antonio is a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteI have to have the tv on in the background. Hubby once turned it off and I was not pleased so on it went again. saying that I will soon be in the office sewing so have to think what to listen there. Might have to be iTUnes on the 'puter

Wow - I'm so glad I found your shop...I love your selection! I don't usually listen to much while I sew. My "studio" is in the laundry room, which is next to our playroom. So, I listen to either the washing machine or to whatever the boys are doing. I like to keep an ear out for their shenanigans!
ReplyDeleteI sew with music in the background. On my ipod at the moment is Lady Gaga.
ReplyDeleteI usually have the TV on while I sew, but it's more for the "company" vs. actually paying attention to it. thanks for the giveaway.

ReplyDeleteI generally have CDs playing in the background.

ReplyDeleteFor me, it depends on whether the hubby is home or not. If he is, he has control over the TV and I'm listening to Lost or him playing a video game and cursing incredibly loud. If he's not it's either Bones or my One Republic Pandora station. Love pandora! Regardless, there is always the noise of the dogs playing together and the cats meowing for attention. It's a beautiful life!! Thank you for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI just found you and "joined" the site! You have souch wonderful fabric choices. I usually don't have anything on in the background when I am sewing, since I find the process itself relaxing. Funny little side note, my DH was in the Navy for 21 yrs. he was on Subs. I am glad you have something that you enjoy while you DH is away, I know it can get awful lonely at times, staying busy really helps. We have been retired for 11 yrs now, and I am almost used to having him home all the time, though sometimes I wish he was still going to sea.(LOL)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy listening to Sting. Sometimes my parrot, Jack, sings along in vibrato. However, Jack usually adds an "e-i-e-i-o" from his favorite song, Old McDonald. LOL! Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI usually sew to the background of music, mostly Jack Johnson. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI listen to music (Adele) on my IPOD with headphones while the grandchildren run thru the house making a mess. Sewing and Adele - I can face the mess they're making when I'm done!
ReplyDeleteI usually sew in the peace and quiet... or with music if I remember!
ReplyDeleteI quilt with music on. Usually Adele. Thanks so much

ReplyDeleteIt depends on what I am working on. If it is something that I am doing for the first time I lock myself away and just work with nothing on. If it something like a quilt then the T.V is on all the time, if I have music on I forget to work and listen to the music. That is how I work.Thank You for this giveaway and Happy Holiday to You and Yours.
ReplyDeleteIt depends, sometimes it's music, sometimes it's tv. Most of the time it's whatever my family is up to at the time I am sewing.
ReplyDeleterjbmom7@optonline.net
Depends on my mood - sometimes radio apps (more selection), my music, podcasts (quilting usually!), The Quilt Show episodes on my computer or the TV - esp. since hubby just got a new 55" one - now I can really SEE it in our combined office/sewing studio room - thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteJoy, I love to put on the Galaxy Easy listening station and it plays in the background for everything I do in my room, be it on the computer, in front of the sewing machine or relaxing with a great "who done it". ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to say that there is music playing in the background when I sew but the most common noise I have is "MUUUMMMMM, can I ....."
ReplyDeleteThis is generally followed by a demand for food, drink or the opportunity to help. Three year olds do not help in a way that is helpful but I love including them so I get very little done!

ReplyDeleteI think I would want to set up a cot in your booth and live there. To be surrounded by such fun fabrics all the time, I can only imagine!!
ReplyDeleteBecause I've two beautiful, creative and noisy children as well as a husband who must listen to music or have noise around I listen to absolutely nothing when I'm sewing. I am one who just enjoys peace and quiet. (Maybe it's from the years of teaching younger grades in school? Once retired, I wanted some SILENCE!! LOL)
ReplyDeleteI just started quilting this year. I used to love to quilt to the tv while All My Children was on. It was also my "me" time because my son goes to preschool in the afternoons. I haven't found a good replacement since they took it off the air. Oh how I miss those people of Pine Valley...

My preference is Blessed Silence! I love just listening to the whirl of my sewing machine, very relaxing. BUT sometimes I put on Spirit 105.9 a family Christian Station for uplifting music. I nearly ALWAYS have a monkey on my back - literally - my 3 year old loves to climb up in the back of my chair and 'drive'. Mom is sitting is code for 'Climb on Mommy Time'.

I prefer quiet most days so nothing is on in the background. I've tried listening to books on tape or podcasts but find that even though I think I'm paying attention...I never remember anything I heard! :)
ReplyDeleteI love to have some music on in the background, especially Christmas music right now! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThat's weird I guess I don't really have anything on in the background. I am just glad silence and me time.
ReplyDeleteOh I love your little store! I'm always glad to find another store online that looks fabulous! Do you purchase fabrics from your travels to feature in your shop or stay with the regular main funky designers?? I know I've found a woman local to me who makes her own prints and her stuff is amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, while I sew I always listen to a movie or watch the latest TV series I'm streaming on Netflix. I love it!! I can't do quiet. Quiet seems so serious to me! Sometimes it's just music but it's never quiet!!
Thanks for the chance to win! Happy holidays to you and your family. xo

I'm a new follower and the fabric is so yummy! I usually have an old movie playing in the background though I just bought myself several books on tape that I plan on listening to.
